Leys Orchestra celebrates their resumption of live concerts with a return to Warkworth.
The programme is headlined with the beautiful Concertino for Cor Anglais and Orchestra by Donizetti.

Also featured is the triple Concerto in G for Flute, Oboe d'Amore and Viola by Graupner. He was a prolific composer, a contemporary of Handel and Telemann, and one-time rival of JS Bach.

The concert will premiere an early work by NZ composer David Hamilton recently revised and re-orchestrated for Leys Orchestra. Titled The Celestial Gate of Praise, influences of the Armenian/American composer Alan Hovhanes are apparent in this youthful piece.

The programme also includes instrumental extracts from Purcell's opera The Fairy Queen, and a short waltz by Elgar titled Mina. This is named after the composer's Cairn terrier, and is his last completed orchestral work written just weeks before the composer's death.

Admission is free.
