Piano and Harp in Early Auckland

This year's Leys Orchestra Heritage Festival concert illustrates aspects of the roles that the piano and harp played in early Auckland's musical and social fabric.

The piano was an indispensable part of early Auckland's lifestyle, and was played in every conceivable venue and in most homes. The harp also featured highly in musical social events, and had become an essential member of the instrumental forces of orchestras of the time.

Piano soloist Skylar Orr is joined by Matthew Clement and Rebecca Clement in music for two and three players at the keyboard. Young harpist Bella Tan features in every orchestral item in this unique programme.

Four favourite tuneful pieces by Elgar contrast with seminal period  piano music, from beginner level to professional performance.

Admission is free.
